What makes MiLaDo templates compelling?Template are used create tasks in a lesson in a few seconds. You can create a template from scratch or export a task from an existing lesson to a new template. A template can also be exported to several students at once if need be. Template are searchable, and they can be tagged for easier classification.
-
How easy is it to reuse a lesson? It typically takes just a few seconds. When exporting a lesson, you can choose what tasks to include and who to export it to. Then you can fine tune the content in the lesson editor before saving the new copy. For example, it is very common for a new lesson to be an iteration over the previous lesson. Therefore teacher will commonly export the current lesson, add or remove a few tasks, and changes a few words before saving it. Note that students using the iOS app are also able to add tasks to a lesson. Therefore sometimes it is appropriate for the teacher to create the new lesson and ask the student to add new tasks themselves (Students are not able to create or export lessons).
-
Can I annotate Videos with MiLaDo?Yes, in fact you can annotate both audio and video recordings in MiLaDo. Whether that is a file a student attached to a practice, or some file that you attached to a task or a template. Annotations are conveniently labelled with a timestamp and who created it. Tapping on the annotation will take you to the corresponding time in the audio/video file. Students can also add annotations! For example, you could ask a student to record their practice and do a self-assessment by adding annotations where they want to improve. That's always a useful exercise.
-
Can students get awards?Yes, you can send "Claps" any time you like. But some recognitions are automated to make it easier on the teacher. For example, when a student completes all practices for a lesson, they receive an automated Clap. Same if they exceed their practice goal, or if a new piece is added to their repertoire. But with kids, you might alway want to give little tokens of appreciations such as stickers during lessons. That's always a winner.
-
Does MiLaDo use gamification?Professional teachers know their students and how to motivate them. Not all student will react in the same way (e.g. a mature student vs a 5 years old). Therefore we want the teacher to be in control of what mechanism gets activated when it comes to gamification. Moreover, gamification ought to be considered carefully because it can become a distraction. Is it truly beneficial when it involves getting frequent rewards for every small thing done, or meeting some artificial goals such as getting to the top of some leaderboard, just to trigger a short feel good effect (hormone released -> feel good -> need more)? We favour a measured approach where there must be clear evidence that a feature can help meet the goals of musical education before it is rolled out. Can it help with acquiring an appreciation for music, being able to play an instrument in an expressive way, building unspoken connections with fellow musicians when in a band, etc? The teacher must decide. MiLaDo has Claps for encouragement and to acknowledge the efforts students put in. They are awarded if a predetermined amount of work has been done (e.g. completing all practices for a lesson, as set out by the teacher). Other motivators are building a repertoire over time and getting a Clap for each new piece mastered. They are forms of light-weight gamification. More features will be added but we want to allow teachers to enabled/disabled or customise those features so they can line-up with their individual teaching style and the needs of the student.

What about excessive screen time for kids? From day one, MiLaDo was designed to not be addictive in order to minimise screen time. The main use cases from a student's perspective should be seeing lessons instructions, review any teacher attachments or comments, ask for guidance if need be using rich communication media (text, video, audio), and reporting practices, and keeping track of what was done with a teacher. They are all fairly short interactions. During practices, the app screen goes black and only essential info is displayed to avoid any distraction: a timer, a button to open music sheet attached, an audio player to play accompaniments. For students or family that prefer not to use the app during practice times once they know what the tasks are, there is a shortcut to log all practices with one touch: Open the Student app, tap the practice indicator on the home page, and select the option to mark all practices done for the lesson. The teacher will see on their dashboard that the work was done. And you will only have used the app for a few minutes on that week to review the instructions of the lesson and log practices using the shortcut.
-
What about student who prefer not to use an app or a computer? This is quite common. You can still manage such students in MiLaDo like any other students. That will allow you to keep track of their progress and what was done. However you won't send them an invitation to connect. If the students still wants instructions for their lesson, you can generate a PDF file within the MiLaDo Teacher app. Then it is possible to print it or send it via messages or email. The PDF will show all the tasks, and it will have a leading page with your school name, logo, contact details, lesson date, etc. If later on the student changes their mind and wants to connect, you can invite them. They will have access to all previous lessons just like any other student.
-
Is the MiLaDo Student app best for kids or mature students? It is suitable for both. The app adapts to the user by looking and behaving slightly differently based on the age of the student. Over time we will also allow each user to customise the app so it looks and behaves the way they want.
-
I am not your tech-savvy type of teacher, is MiLaDo right for me?Anything new will take a little getting used to but MiLaDo was designed to be as intuitive as possible to use. If some of your customers are asking for something more convenient than the traditional music notebooks to keep track of lessons and engage with their teacher then MiLaDo could be right for you. You may be surprised to see how easy MiLaDo is to use, how much time can be saved with repetitive tasks, and how much more satisfied some of your students or their parents will be. Not to mention having one place where all your student lessons are stored and tracked. It is free to try with one student so that would be a good place to start. Please free free to reach out if you need help.

Is MiLaDo new?MiLaDo first appeared on the Australian App Store in early 2022. That was the start of a steady development and testing phase. It has meant collaborating with early adopters to shape the product. Once mature enough, MiLaDo was made available to a few more countries in 2023. Today it is used by professional teachers and their students on a daily basis. Version 1.0 will be released before the end of 2023 - which will mean that core features of the v1 roadmap will have been integrated.
-
Is MiLaDo best for small studios or large schools?Today MiLaDo is great for small studios / schools. For example where the teacher is the owner. Soon we will add features that make it easier for several teachers to collaborate, share content and handover students in larger school setting.
-
Is the MiLaDo Student app free?Yes, the app is entirely free to download and use. There are also no in-app purchases. It is part of the service the music teacher offers.
-
How much does it cost to use MiLaDo?The monthly cost is less than a cup a coffee ☕️ And there is only one price tier: the affordable one! Because we want every teacher to be able to use such an educational service. The app is free to use for as long as you want with a single student. You subscribe to unlock unlimited students (0.49 USD per month at the time of writing). We also strongly recommend that you enable iCloud+ storage on your account because you - as the teacher - provide secure hosting of files used for teaching (0.99 USD per month for 50GB at the time of writing). We opted to keep storage separate to give teachers full control over their data (that is, you know who is hosting it, nobody else has access, it is simple to monitor, and you only pay for what you need).
-
How come the price of the MiLaDo subscription is so low?MiLaDo was designed from day 1 to be affordable but not at the expense of quality. There are no hungry investors to satisfy, no fancy offices, no lavish marketing budget, ... We rely primarily on word of mouth. It means slower growth but it also forces us to have the best product possible (otherwise no one will talk about it!).
-
Is the Web App secure? The Web App is secured using Apple's authentication services (even though you don't need an Apple device to use it). Just like the native iOS app. Before a student can unlock the web app, they have to login with the free Apple ID that they will have created. Then security mechanisms such as two factor authentication become available (sorry for the technical jargon!). In other words, the student will need to enter the username and password, as well as an ephemeral security code that Apple sends in a message. Please also note that all our apps are built in-house, and only code that we have designed and tested ourselves goes into our products (i.e. we never adopt third party frameworks, or outsource dev work). Thereby containing the risk of malicious or poorly written code entering the app.
-
How come I didn't have to create a username or password to use the iOS app?Thankfully, MiLaDo can leverage the strong inbuilt security mechanisms that Apple has baked into your device. It is true for both the Teacher and the Student app. That makes registration and login a breeze. It also means you don't need to create and manage another username or password.
-
What is your privacy policy? We take privacy extremely seriously. Therefore we do out utmost to ensure the data of MiLaDo users data can only be accessed by the intended user. We also ensure that data stored by the app is not in breach of any regulations. Please note that all stored data is encrypted and that neither the developper nor Apple have access to it; whether it is stored on device or in the Cloud. Likewise, we don't monitor behavioural data for the app (i.e. what the users does, when, ...). See our website for our full privacy policy.

Does MiLaDo offer unlimited storage? With MiLaDo, the teachers are in control of their storage (not the app developer). It ensures maximum privacy. It also means you only pay for what you need; which keeps the price of the service down. Unfortunately unlimited storage is a bit of fallacy. Whilst it may sound like a great idea, what ends up happening is everyone will be footing the bill for a few big users, or private data will be monetized to offset the cost. It also encourages poor behaviour as there are no consequences for storing anything forever (terrible for the planet!). In the worst case scenario the service will go out of business because storage costs have become unsustainable. On Apple devices, it is very easy to see how much iCloud storage you are using. Go to: Settings > Apple ID > iCloud Apple will also send you alerts when storage is running low (e.g. 75% capacity used, ...)
-
Is storage optimised?Yes, storage is optimised in several ways: 1. uploaded files are compressed whilst ensuring that the quality remains adequate for the task at hand (e.g. a video might be compressed to be 100 times smaller than the original). It not only reduced storage needs but also speeds up transmission over the internet 2. MiLaDo can be configured to automatically delete files that haven't been used for certain duration (e.g. 6 months). See the Storage section in your teacher profile.
-
Do teacher have to have an iCloud+ storage plan?Teachers offer private a secure storage to their student to host MiLaDo data. Therefore it is recommended to subscribe to an iCloud+ plan, particularly since the free 5GB may get used by other apps on your device. The cheapest iCloud+ plan should cover the needs of most MiLaDo Teachers (0.99USD/mth at the time of writing).
-
Is storage secure and privateiCloud storage is managed by Apple, which is known for its strong privacy policies and stringent security standards. Moreover, MiLaDo only leverages the most secure databases in the iCloud offering to ensure that users data is protected.
-
What about students who don't have any free iCloud storage available? The MiLaDo Student app does not use any of the iCloud quota from the student account to store lessons, attachments, etc. So even if they have no free space on their account, so long as they can register successfully the app will work fine because all storage is provided by the MiLaDo teacher.
-
What devices can be used to run the MiLaDo Teacher app?Any iPad or iPhone installed with iOS 15 or later. We may add support for more platforms if there is strong demand from users (let us know using the contact form).
-
Can the MiLaDo Student app run on any devices?Student will have different types of devices available to them. Therefore We have designed a modern web app that can run on any type of computer or mobile device (Windows, Android, iOS, Linux, etc), including older devices. There is also a native iPad / iPhone / Mac app. It is considered our flagship app because it has more advanced features. That being said, the web app aims to include all core features such as allowing a student to view lessons, receive annotated recordings from their teacher, log practices, receive claps as encouragements, etc.

Where can I get help? You are welcome to reach out using the contact form on this website. For documentation: * this site will have tutorials covering common scenarios * there is contextual help throughout the app (localised in several languages)
